Surviving Thanksgiving 2018
By: Those forever grateful Red Skies Staffers
Stay away from the weird uncle.
No talk of politics AT ALL. If someone brings it up, distract them – ask them, what their plans are for Black Friday.
If someone asks you, what your plans are for the future, distract them – ask them, what their plans are for Black Friday.
Prep your food early.
Vegans – avoid the turkey & the gravy, & distract those family members who question your diet preferences with a question about what their plans are for Black Friday.
Amp up your nieces & nephews with questions about Santa. Tell them for a price, you’ll give them Santa’s cell number.
Watch the Parade & then watch the National Dog Show.
Leave room for dessert.
Take a nap.
Help out your mom.
Hide – so your parents can’t ask you to cook.
Hide your leftovers.
Note traffic patterns.
Avoid grocery stores.
Dress up & use this opportunity to wash your jeans & your SSU sweatshirt, that has been doing double duty as a winter coat.
FYI, there is nothing wrong with store bought pie – just take it out of the box, & put it on a plate. Who is to know?
Be the volunteer on Thursday who goes to the store – you can disappear for 3 to 4 hours – who is to know?
Don’t feed the puppies.
If you are worried about seeing certain people – just remember it’s only once a year & turn on a football game to distract them, if our ruse about Black Friday gets old.
Thanksgiving drive boxes are located in the Frederick Berry Learning Commons, the O’Keefe Center and the Sullivan Building.
Lastly, be grateful for all we have and remember the people in California who have lost everything. Think about donating toward the recovery efforts. But again, be thankful for all that we have here at SSU – including each other!
