Tristan Abbott, the new Coordinator of the Mary G. Walsh Writing Center, housed on the first floor of the Frederick R. Berry Library and Leaning Commons, stated “the Writing Center helps Salem State students and faculty become better writers.” The Writing Center does this in many ways. For example, Writing Center tutors focus on the big ideas within the paper, as opposed to smaller concerns such as spelling, and making sure the ideas are thoroughly explained.
When asked what the best thing about the Writing Center is, Abbott specified that “the best part of the Writing Center is the individualized attention that our trained tutors provide. While in a session at the Writing Center, you are sure to get your questions answered and many of your problems simplified due to this.
Abbott is excited to be the new Coordinator of the Writing Center and says, “I’m feeling great! We’re starting lots of new projects, including providing conversation groups for ESL/ELL students, and I am very excited to get those off the ground.” He advises to keep a look out for these conversation groups in the future.
Finally, Tristan Abbott wants to make sure that all students at Salem State know that, “Everyone can benefit from a visit to the Writing Center, and we’d love to see more people come use our services.”
He hopes to see you at the Writing Center for a session soon!
