Salem Film Fest 2014

By: Dorothy Calabro
If you’re interested in film and live music entertainment, Salem’s Seventh Annual Film Fest is a must- see event. From March 6th-13th, Salem will be presenting a diverse range of thought provoking documentaries and hosting several events. Preceding these films will be performances from many local musicians and bands.
Start off the week by going to the kickoff reception at Salem’s historic Old Town Hall, 32 Derby Square. Meet VIPs, listen to music, and compare itineraries with fellow film enthusiasts. Another interesting event is the Five-Minute Student Doc Contest Awards Presentation. View the top ten films created by Massachusetts high school students presented on the big screen.
The following event, Mass Reality Check, presents films created by current Massachusetts college and university students and recent graduates.
If music and dancing interests you more than film, check out the Saturday Night After-Party at Finz Restaurant. The restaurant is featuring Barrence Whitfield and the Grits & Groceries Orchestra for a night of fun entertainment. The best part about all of these events? They’re free!
It’s a great opportunity to explore interests in film making and see if you have what it takes to submit a film in the future. The prices for the movie tickets aren’t bad either. Individual admission tickets for all Salem Film Fest film presentations cost $10 for adults and $8 for seniors, students, and children. Tickets can be purchased at the Cinema Salem box office (hours: Monday-Friday 4 pm – 8 pm and Saturday-Sunday noon – 8 pm.) With over forty films to choose from, focusing on a vast range of topics from cultural diversity to personal happiness, there is a great film to watch for everyone.
