Our Crazy Weather

By Jess Goode
Now that it is November, the weather is finally starting to get cool. We are getting into the season where we will finally bd pulling out our winter jackets, riding boots, and drinking hot lattes and coffees. However, it has not been that cold beforehand. On November 4th it was 70 degrees in most of Massachusetts.
According to “So far this is Earth's second-warmest year on record” on CNBC, it states that 2017 is the second hottest year on record, the first being 2016, by 0.23 degrees. The article “Don’t expect blockbuster snowfall this winter” also states, “September and October 2017 were very warm — in fact, October in Boston came within one-tenth of a degree of tying the warmest on record.”
These statements show how warm it has been recently, and it is a current trend that shows in Salem. Based on the weather this year most of us have thought: “What will winter be like this year?” Since the weather in September and October have been very warm, that can help predict our weather, meaning it is possible it will be slightly warmer than usual, with less snowfall.
An even bigger predictor is the weather pattern in November, which will show more as we get towards the end of November and see if the cooler weather will keep coming, and the strange warm weather patterns not occurring anymore.
Let’s see how the weather plays out this month, and we can try to predict our weather this winter in New England!
