Love’s Watermark
by Olivia Heenan
I watched a woman with red hair say goodbye to someone she loved today
She had a bundle of colorful flowers in her hand
She got out of the car he stayed in
They were talking but
when she leaned in to kiss him
A car drove next to them
I watched her lean out
and hesitantly watch the car pass
As if there was a secret
As if we can’t love each other without suspicions
I wonder why it’s so fearful to think about
other people holding onto each other
I wish she didn’t pull away
I wish I hadn’t been so afraid
