Fall 2017 Registration is Here

By Megan Grossi
Registration is every student’s favorite time of the year! Don’t worry about getting through spring classes, let’s talk about the fall. Dreading that final paper? Pick a fun class for next semester as something to look forward to! Or better yet, take a summer class to get ahead of the game, or make up that one class you know you’re going to have to take again in order to graduate.
Last semester, Salem State changed up the format of when undergrad students are allowed to register. However, for (degree-seeking) students in the Graduate program and the School of Continuing and Professional Studies, registration for fall 2017 opens on March 27th at 8:30am. Non-degree-seeking students (i.e. students who are taking classes temporarily or with the intention of transferring them to their full-time school) can register on April 3rd. The schedule for undergrad students is a little more complicated.
Registration opens for all priority students at 7am on their respective days. For all other students, registration opens at 3pm. Seniors’ day is March 28th; juniors’ March 29th; sophomores’ March 30th; and freshmen can register on Friday, March 31st. Undergrad students register according to what their class status will be next semester. That will be based on completed credits, so double check that number during advising, or check Navigator, in order to register for the fall on the correct day.
However, between May 3rd and September 6th, students have a whole summer to not be in school. Most spend that time going somewhere fun, interning, or at a job, but it’s also a good time to stay on top of Degree Tracker. For both graduate and undergrads registration for summer courses opened on February 27th at 8:30am. Both online and in-class courses are offered in both sessions – Summer Session I goes from May 22nd to July 1st, and Summer Session II begins on July 10th and continues until August 19th. If summer courses are the difference between spending an extra year or semester at school, it might be worth it to invest.
Don’t forget to meet with advisors and prepare to register on the appropriate day. Good luck, Salem State folks, and congratulate yourselves on another semester accomplished, and that much closer to graduation!
