Are Winter Session Courses for You?

By: Samantha Lombardi
Many students here at SSU are finding ways to earn credits more quickly. The ultimate goal of graduation keeps many students focused on their credit count of 120. A popular option is to take Summer Courses, which are held in two session from May to June and then July to August. This is one way to get courses out of the way so that a student can get to graduation much sooner. Courses outside of the regular semester schedule is particularly useful for students who have transferred in from other schools, and have classes that didn’t transfer over.
Another option for students looking to take classes in between the fall and spring semesters are Accelerated Winter Courses. Winter Courses this year run from January 9th to January 13th. To put it bluntly, they last one week and consist of a semester’s worth work done in that one week. These courses usually are conducted in the classroom, but some are offered online.
One week institutes and courses are intense. The fact that they are so intense means that they are typically recommended for very dedicated and determined students. The cost will depend on the course(s) taken, as stated in the 2016-2017 tuition and fees chart.
Registration for these courses has already begun. If you are interested, you should start registering as soon as possible to ensure you get a seat in the class(es) you need.
